| Wouldn't I make a dashing Pope? |
Can't Pope Weigel at least wait till the conclave is assembled to put forward his candidacy? Can't he at least wait till 8PM Rome time today to proclaim his declarations of apostasy and schism?...
The lack of restraint from those who wish to "frame" the next pontificate is astounding. Küng has tried it, Weigel, still not fully recovered from the end of the Wojtyla pontificate, is trying it as well. As for the "schismatic Lefebvrists", their only program seems to be this novena for the election of the Sovereign Pontiff, starting tomorrow. Now, which of these programs seems to be the truly Catholic one?

More and more nonsense will be published next week. Just wait....
Dear Lord this Americanist "right v. left" trope is so tired and Weigel is still out there advancing it.
Just call Lefevbre and those who went with him "hard right," and you don't even have to think about them anymore. You can just totally ignore their thinking and their faith in every respect.
I, and many prayer Bishop Fellays Novena beginning tomorrow.
"Bishop" Weigel is not in touch with reality, sad to say.
That is "pray"
Loved the title of this post. This guy has become quite the joke, hasn't he? Shudder.

I wonder if Weigel even knows what Catholicism?
Is there anyone who can tell me that what Pope Emeritus plans to do could not also be done had he remained Pope?
This abdication is as revolutionary as it is strange.
What he has done is so similar to what Sarah Palin did when she quit as Governor of Alaska even as she promised to keep working for Alaskans.
Well, could not his prayer life as Pope - offered in conjunction with his sufferings - redound spiritually to Holy Mother Church far more effectively than to abdicate and abandon his flock?
I have had the "opportunity" (read "obligation") to listen to His Holiness Pope Weigel I on numerous occasions. Like the endless, monotonous analyses of Vatican II documents, he will doubtless go on and on and on for many years to come. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if, some day, I have to enter a building named in his honor. Isn't he the fool who coined the brilliant antiphon "JPII, we love you!" ?
It's just best I bite my tongue on Weigel, he strains my ability to remain civil.
But thank you, NC, for the link to the novena!
Perhaps the novena even merits a post of its own.
Yes, certainly Kathleen.
By the way, if our readers have links to similar initiatives by other congregations, we would be glad to link to them.

Adopt a cardinal to pray for...
Yes I am not sure if it is cultural but the cult of fame and indivualism in the USA means vanity and self exultation are taken as normal. So many US Catholic bloggers have biographies, sell their books and even have awards and other bits of tat added in an effort to woe adulation and admiration. I call it the Mahoney syndrome. Weigel may be one of those but certainly his view is a reflection of American assumptions.
Poor old Mr Weigel. He really is just an old-fashioned goody-goody
George Weigel wrote:
"so does Bernard Fellay, the schismatic bishop and leader of the hard-right Lefebvrists"

I'm with Kathleen. Best to hold my tongue. But Weigel is certainly tedious, isn't he?
Did you read Weigel's main post, Columba William? Did you? Now read it and then return here. If you did, and yet could not grasp our indignation, that is quite unfortunate.
He should dye his hair red so he would look more like George Will.
I pray that Pope Weigel will become the second pope in the last two hours to abdicate.
Pope Weigel I said
"Catholicism stretched its thinking about Church-and-state in response to the dynamics of modern history. The result of this two-fold process—recovery (the move back) and extension (the move ahead)—was Vatican II’s teaching that religious freedom is a fundamental human right that a just society should recognize in law as a civil right".
Unfortunately Weigel is a modernist and neo-Catholic "superstar" to many in the American media and to many clergy and laity in the Novus Ordo parishes, which makes him in my opinion alot more dangerous than other heretics like Hans Kung, who, like Weigel, has his followers but not the platform and following that Weigel has. Perhaps someday a statue of Weigel will be constructed right next to his messiah, oops I mean mentor, Pope John Paul "the great".
Does Weigel contend that the Church is now hunky dory with Sharia being enshrined in the legal systems of Western Europe? Is he ok with that? Does Vatican II compel us to accept Sharia, or otherwise we are imposing our views on the State?
I can guarantee him this: Islam will have no qualms about abolishing all "religious liberty" for Christians.
